3 Speeds

Nope we're not talking about biking here,

we're talking swimming.

My swim workouts call for 3 speeds.
Easy, Cruise, & Fast.

Problem is,
if I differentiate my swimming speeds, it comes down to...
EASY:Just enough to move forward...
CRUISE:A pace that doesn't get me out of breath that I can maintain for an extended period of time....
and
FAST: Exemplified by flailing of legs and arms and shortness of breath, with little if any extra forward propulsion and only maintained for 15 yards at best.
Not to mention the lifeguards and other swimmers looking at you wondering...
Is she swimming or drowning?

This weekend I was in the last swim wave of the day. After my wetsuit malfunction I found myself pretty much dead last.

Unfortunately there wasn't another swim wave following me that I could just blend into.

So I found myself trying to swim fast, without flailing, trying to catch up to the pack. I pushed harder than I normally might have...
I tried to use my "fast pace"
for more than 15 yards...
and was rewarded by catching up to and passing several others.

Without Flailing!
For about 1200 yards.

I wasn't really aware of the breakthrough I had made until today's swim.

My Cruise pace seems to have morphed into the strong sustained pace I had this weekend...
and...
My fast pace has a lot less flailing and a lot more fast.

I truly have 3 speeds!
