While I learn how to use this new website I'll repost some of my favorites from the last year. This one is from November 2010.
Just Hit Enter!
I have had this conversation with myself several times now. Entering my first 10k. Entering a triathlon.
Just hit enter! What’s the worst that can happen? Tell people you entered, then it becomes reality. Just hit Enter! If you finish last you still finish ahead of tons of people that never even had the courage to start.
Just Hit Enter!
How did I get to that point? I’m not sure. Much of the last 6 months is a blur.
I let my husband convince me to join a gym and see a personal trainer, Just a quick note, I think he regrets that now. He refers to the gym as my boyfriend!
I met with a personal trainer, Brian. I looked at him and saw a man, 6ft+ tall, 30 some years old, who looked like he never had a weight problem in his life. How could he relate to me? A 50, graying hair old lady, 50+ pounds overweight for most of my life. We sat down and talked. We talked about food choices, nothing I hadn’t heard all my life.
Sadly, I knew how this would end, Another disappointment on my end.
Little did I know I had found someone who was familiar with my plight, Brian himself had dealt with being overweight. Although his journey was not the same as mine it turned out his experience helped him deal with mine. I credit him with dragging me up the fitness hill for two months. Sometimes I ate well. Sometimes I still ate chips and ice cream. It was then he said “come on you’re working too hard and not really getting anywhere:...what do we need to do?
At that point I decided that what I needed was a goal. I hate running but let’s enter a race, at least it will give me purpose. It seems that was what I needed. I really had to pay more attention to what I ate, and made sure I really did workout more often.
Just Hit Enter! and then tell everyone. It makes it reality. What I found out was the fear of coming in last, the fear of failure...didn’t even come into play. Even if you finish last you are.....
