One Week until Leadman.
I was looking back at my race times from last year and noticed that I have finished all of them within minutes of my projected time.
That has me thinking.....
The power of the mind is just as important as the power of the body.
If you asked me 3 weeks ago to enter an event, the end of March, that totaled 78 or so miles, I would have told you you're crazy.
My longest bike at that point had been just 40 miles.
This race it will be 68.
When I won the entry my first thought was to give it away to someone. Thankfully my new coach was there. When I said "I can't do this." He said "absolutely you can".
I went home and did the math. 1.6 mile swim, 68 mile bike, and 8 mile run (pretty much uphill).
Cutoff time 9 hours.
Okay I can do that.
I might finish in 8:59:59 but I'll finish.
Today, 3 weeks later, I stopped in to see my coach and tweek my bike fit. He asked me about my expectations. I didn't share alot.
Why share that survival is your ultimate goal.
I sit this afternoon watching the NCAA Hockey playoffs,
Yes, March madness for me is hockey not basketball.
I watched a young man say
"our goal was not to get to the playoffs, it is to win them."
And there in lies my prediction.
If I think 8:59:59 works, it is when I will finish.
I do not want to finish in 8:59:59.
I think I am faster than that, my mind must remember that I am faster than that.
Here's the deal:
My prediction 8:12.
Being Crazy Isn't Enough
